The Kerala police, on Tuesday, May 27, booked Malayalam film actor Unni Mukundan following a complaint of physical assault filed by his former manager, Vipin Kumar. The complaint was registered at the Infopark police station, with Vipin alleging that the assault was triggered by a social media post in which he praised another actor’s film.

Speaking to the media, Vipin said the issue began after he recently posted praise for Narivetta, a film starring Tovino Thomas. "That day, Unni Mukundan told me I should no longer continue as his manager. I agreed. There are many more things I cannot reveal at the moment, but I will share them later," he added.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred on May 26 in the parking lot of the DLF apartments in Kakkanad, Ernakulam, where Vipin resides. Unni Mukundan allegedly assaulted Vipin by hitting him in the face and damaging his sunglasses. The complaint also claims that Mukundan threatened to kill Vipin and used abusive language during the altercation.

"I have worked with Unni for the past six years. Yesterday, he came to my flat and asked me to meet him in the parking lot, where he physically assaulted me," Vipin told reporters after filing the complaint.

Meanwhile, Unni Mukundan has denied the physical assault allegation. He further alleged that there was a “defamation campaign” against him and claimed that he met Vipin to inquire about that.

Police slapped different charges against Unni Mukundan, including sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 296(b) (uttering obscene songs, ballads, or words in a public place), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 324(4) and 324(5) (causing loss or damage) of Bhariya Nayay Sanhitha (BNS).
