With just hours left for the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Thiruvananthapuram UDF candidate Shashi Tharoor and NDA’s Kummanam Rajasekharan began the crucial counting day by offering prayers. The two candidates are touted to be neck and neck in their fight for the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat.

At 5:30 am on Thursday (May 23), two-term MP Tharoor tweeted a picture of him praying with this aged mother in the prayer room of his residence in the capital city. His caption read, “D-Day at last! Will it be D for Deliverance for the nation from 5 years of misgovernance, ineptitude & bigotry, or D for Disappointment & Despair for all who who believe in #InclusiveIndia, responsible governance, liberal social values & economic justice?”.

NDA candidate Kummanam Rajasekharan who had quit his post as the Governor of Mizoram to contest in the elections visited the Shri Ayyagurudeva Maha samadhi temple in Thiruvananthapuram. Speaking to media after his temple visit, Kummanam said, “I believe in the people and I think the people believe in me. I decided to contest the election because I have lived here, understood the problems people face and I believe I can address these and respect their beliefs. So the results will be favourable."

He added, "The members who represented the constituency neglected and ignored the people and did not do anything for the development of the city.”
