In a major reshuffle within the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Adv Sunny Joseph, MLA, has been appointed the new KPCC President, replacing senior leader K Sudhakaran, MP. The change comes amid mounting internal dissent and debate over the party’s leadership structure in the state.

The announcement was made via an official press release from All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal, MP, stating that the AICC president has approved several key appointments in both the KPCC and the United Democratic Front (UDF), with immediate effect.

Sunny Joseph will now helm the KPCC, while Adoor Prakash, MP, has been named the new UDF convenor. The party also announced the appointment of three new working presidents for the KPCC: PC Vishnunadh, MLA; AP Anil Kumar, MLA; and Shafi Parambil, MP. Vishnunadh will step down from his role as AICC secretary to take up his new position within the state unit.

In its press release, the party expressed its appreciation for the contributions of the outgoing KPCC president K Sudhakaran, as well as the outgoing UDF convenor MM Hassan. Gratitude was also extended to the former KPCC working presidents Kodikkunnil Suresh, MP; TN Prathapan; and T Siddique, MLA, for their service.

This leadership overhaul follows recent comments by K Sudhakaran, who claimed he had not been asked to resign — a statement that reportedly displeased the party's central leadership. The decision to bring in Sunny Joseph is widely viewed as an effort by the high command to reset and revitalise the state unit ahead of future electoral battles.

With a new team in place, the KPCC is expected to shift its focus toward organisational strengthening and strategic preparations for the upcoming elections in Kerala.
