In a strongly worded statement, popular Malayalam actor Honey Rose accused an individual of stalking her and publicly making derogatory remarks loaded with sexual innuendos after she refused invitations to attend events he hosted. A few months ago, a video of an inauguration event where businessman Boby Chemmanur could be seen making an objectionable comment on Honey Rose had gone viral. When asked to comment on his statements, he doubled down and made further objectionable statements against her.

Honey Rose’s statement, without naming Boby Chemmanur, stressed that the right to personal freedom for an individual does not include the freedom to insult another’s dignity.

“When an individual persistently follows and tries to insult me using innuendos, people close to me ask whether I remain silent because I enjoy such statements or because I agree with everything being said. This individual [who made such comments] invited me to certain events, but I refused to attend. In retaliation, they began deliberately showing up at events I attend and, whenever possible, publicly making disparaging remarks about me in ways that demean womanhood through media outlets,” the statement read.

Honey Rose further said she was advised that the actions of this individual—“speaking with sexually coloured intent and following me with the same purpose”—constitute offences under the law. “Personally, I usually disregard such nonsensical behaviour from individuals with mental disturbances, treating it with disdain and pity. However, that doesn't mean I lack the ability to respond,” she added.
