
Renowned Malayalam screenwriter and lyricist MT Vasudevan Nair is in critical condition after being admitted to Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode on Friday, December 20, 2024.
The 90-year-old literary legend, affectionately known as MT, is undergoing intensive medical care for heart failure, according to a medical bulletin released by the hospital. The statement noted that he is receiving treatment aimed at optimising cardiac function and stabilising vital parameters. MT was admitted following breathing difficulties, which he had reportedly been experiencing for the past week.
Writer MN Karassery, who visited MT in hospital, provided an update on his condition, saying, “He was admitted two days ago due to breathing issues. His condition remains critical. He is conscious but unable to move or speak. His wife and second daughter Aswathy are by his side, while his elder daughter had visited him 10 days ago.”
Kerala PWD Minister PA Muhammed Riyas also visited the hospital to inquire about MT’s health. Speaking to the media, he said, “Doctors are trying their best, and all possible medical support is being provided.”
MT Vasudevan Nair is widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in Indian literature and cinema, with an unparalleled legacy in Malayalam fiction and screenwriting. His works have profoundly influenced Kerala’s cultural landscape, earning him enduring respect and admiration.
