Renowned literary critic and former MLA M K Sanu passed away here in Kochi on Saturday, August 2. He was 98. 

Sanu was under treatment for age related ailments at a private hospital in Kochi. 

Sanu, known as Sanu mash, was a prominent figure in Kerala's cultural sphere for around eight decades as a professor, literary critic, author and translator. He was the recipient of Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, instituted by Kerala Sahitya Akademi, in 2013 and Kendra Sahitya Akademi award in 2011. He has written 36 books, including biographies of Sri Narayanaguru Swami, Sahodaran Ayyappan and Changampuzha Krishnapillai. Thaazhvarayile Sandhya and Ivar Lokathe Snehichavar are his memoirs.

He contested the Assembly election in 1987 as a Left-supported Independent candidate and won from Ernakulam constituency

Sanu, who won first rank in MA Malayalam from University College Thiruvananthapuram, has worked as lecturer in Sree Narayana College and Maharaja's College.
