A case has been registered against a teacher under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act for allegedly fabricating a sexual abuse complaint about a higher secondary student in her school. The case was filed on June 6 in Kilimanoor town. The teacher, identified as Chandralekha, has also been suspended from the school on the orders of V Sivankutty, the state Minister for General Education and Labour.
According to reports, Chandralekha had allegedly accused another teacher of sexually abusing the student due to personal vendetta. She filed a complaint with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), reports add. Police who investigated the complaint, discovered that the allegations were false.
Police personnel told the media that Chandralekha and her husband both worked at the same school and hoped to get into the school’s management board. With this aim, they allegedly fabricated the complaint to oust another teacher.
Reports say that the student, upset by the incident, was forced to drop out of the school. The student’s parents have also filed a complaint with the state Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) commission, reports say.
Speaking to mediapersons, Sivankutty said, “What happened at the school is something that we have never witnessed. We cannot pretend like nothing happened. I will instruct Deputy Director (DD) of Education Dhanya to submit a report on the incident within a week.”
