The police, on Thursday, May 15, arrested advocate Beyline Das, in connection with the assault of a young woman lawyer, Advocate Shyamily Justin. The arrest was made by Thiruvananthapuram police near station Kadavu after police tracked Das through his vehicle.

The case has garnered significant public attention after it emerged that the victim, Advocate Shyamily, suffered serious facial injuries, following a violent altercation at Beyline’s office. According to police, the conflict originated from a dispute between two junior advocates, which escalated into physical violence.

Shyamily had reportedly gone to meet Beyline to resolve a previous disagreement, during which she was allegedly assaulted multiple times in the face. She was immediately taken to Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, where she remains under medical care.

Police have booked Beyline under several non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), section 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt).

Beyline a native of Ambalathara, had gone into hiding following the incident. His mobile phone remained switched off, but activity was later detected on May 13 in Poonthura and again on May 15 morning in Kazhakkoottam. This confirmed his presence in the city and led police to intensify the search.

Later that evening, the Vanchiyoor Station House Officer received a tip-off that Beyline was travelling in a red car near station Kadavu. A District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) patrolling team, in coordination with Thumba police, intercepted the vehicle. Vanchiyoor police subsequently reached the location and took him into custody.

Further investigation revealed that Das had been staying at a friend’s house in Pallithura and had also visited his ancestral home in Poonthura while absconding. Notably, he had filed for anticipatory bail, which was scheduled to be heard in court on May 16, but the arrest occurred before the hearing.

He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

Speaking to the media after the arrest, Advocate Shyamily expressed her gratitude to the Kerala Police. “I sincerely thank the police team for acting swiftly. I hope the legal system ensures justice is served,” she said.
