Kerala: Four dead, several injured after KSRTC bus falls into 30-feet gorge

In a tragic accident, a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus fell into a gorge at Idukki’s Pullupara on Monday, January 6, killing four and injuring several others. The accident occurred at around 6.15 early in the morning when the bus, carrying 34 passengers and three staff members, was on its trip back from Thanjavur to Mavelikkara after a tour. 

According to reports, the brakes of the bus failed when negotiating a curve. The driver lost control and the vehicle spiraled into a 30-feet gorge and got stuck in a tree. 

The deceased passengers were identified as Rama Mohan, Arun Hari, Sangeeth, and Bindu. More details are yet to be known. The injured passengers were immediately rushed to a government hospital in Peermade and a private hospital in Mundakayam.

The bus began its journey to Thanjavur on Sunday, January 5, from Mavelikkara in the Alappuzha district. Initial rescue operations were led by the residents, following which fire and safety officers and police joined in. 

The fire force is currently attempting to lift the bus using a crane to find out if anyone is trapped beneath it.
