The Kerala police have begun an investigation into an alleged threat letter that was sent to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, which claimed that “revenge” would be exacted over the 7 Maoist killings that have taken place during his tenure. The letter was sent to the Vadakara Police station under the Kozhikode rural police.
Confirming the receipt of the letter to TNM, an officer from the Vadakara PS said that the letter came in on Friday night.
“It said that they would take action against the Chief Minister for the Maoist killings and against the former Vadakara SI and current Perambra SI Harish for his high handedness,” the officer told TNM. He added that attached with the letter were three pages from the CPI (Maoist) palm leaf magazine ‘Kaatuthee’ (forest fire).
The letter was reportedly signed by the Vice President of the Urban Action team — Bader Moosa. The letter has been attributed to the Action Team, Kabami Dalam, Western Ghats.
In October this year, a Thunderbolt team of the Kerala police gunned down 4 alleged Maoists in the forests bordering Palakkad and Malappuram. Mani Vasakam, a top Maoist from Tamil Nadu who was allegedly an expert in IEDs (improvised explosive devices) was gunned down the following day. According to the letter, CM Pinarayi was responsible for the death of 7 Maoists ever since he assumed office in 2016.
The ruling CPI(M) government has come under heavy criticism by the Congress as well as the CPI — which is the second biggest ally of the ruling left government — following the killings.
