The Bar Council of Kerala has revoked the suspension of advocate Beyline Das, who had been barred from legal practice following allegations of assaulting his junior colleague, advocate Shyamily Justin. The suspension was lifted during a Bar Council meeting held on June 11.
The Council’s decision was formally communicated to the Kerala High Court, which observed on Tuesday, July 15, that the earlier restraint on Das’ practice, which was imposed through an order dated May 15, 2025, would no longer be in effect, though it remains subject to conditions set by the Bar Council.
Justice N Nagaresh, who was presiding over Das’ petition challenging the disciplinary action, closed the proceedings in light of the new development. In his order, the judge noted, “I find considerable force in the contention of the petitioner (Das) that giving evidence before the Bar Council of Kerala may affect his defence before the Criminal Court… These are matters which the petitioner can appraise before the Bar Council.”
Beyline Das, who was practising at the district court in Thiruvananthapuram, was accused of physically assaulting advocate Shyamily Justin on May 13 at his Vanchiyoor office. Based on Justin’s complaint, the Vanchiyoor police registered an FIR against Beyline Das under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, including Section 126(2) (wrongful restraint), Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt).
Following the complaint, the State Bar Council had suspended Beyline Das’ licence pending disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association. However, he challenged the suspension before the High Court in June, arguing that the Bar Council had no authority to act against him citing a 2025 High Court ruling that questioned the legal standing of the Council after the expiry of its term.
