As protests by various student organisations and political parties intensify with each passing day in the Kerala Law Academy issue, college Principal Dr. Lekshmi Nair continues to be equally adamant about not stepping down.

That is, not until her father -the director of the institution- asks her to do so. Reminds one of the iconic ‘Kathee thaareh idathaa’ scene from Mohanlal blockbuster Kireedom, eh!

Speaking to the media, she reiterated that neither the state government nor the University had the right to remove her from the post. She warned of legal action, in case they nurtured any such intention. No one can at least blame her for not warning people of the consequences of any such move by those in power.

“I have done nothing wrong. I am very clear about all that I do. I will hence not step down until my father asks me to do so,” Lekshmi insisted.

She also went on to claim that majority of the students in her college supported her, and that only very few students are actually involved in the protest.

Lekshmi believed that the ones protesting were unhappy over certain disciplinary measures that she had implemented on campus. “They want these to go,” she alleged.

Lekshmi’s father Narayanan Nair who currently serves as the institute's director, had established the Kerala Law Academy in 1968. It has among its alumni several leading politicians, judges, lawyers, high-ranking police officers and bureaucrats.

Protests by various student unions asking Lekshmi to step down had taken a violent turn on Friday.
