The Kerala unit of the Congress has expelled AP Abullakutty from the party for showering praises on PM Narendra Modi after the BJP’s big win in the Lok Sabha elections. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee or KPCC gave Abdullakutty 5 days to explain his remarks. His failure to furnish a response led to the party’s decision to oust him.

Abullakutty’s Facebook post praising Modi’s victory came right after the Congress suffered a crushing defeat in the elections. The KPCC had set up a commission to probe the incident and even sent Abdullakutty a letter asking him to explain his remarks. However, the unit has made it clear that he was expelled as he did not explain his stance to date.

Abullakutty on the other hand claims that he had not received any intimation from the party regarding the need to explain his stance, until this morning. He also did not get any letter from the KPCC, he claimed.

In a sarcastic tone, he also told media persons that the party leaders probably did not know his house address in Kannur.

Regarding his Facebook status, Abdullakutty did not backtrack from his views. He stated that every leader had the right to speak to truth without fear.  He also reportedly emphasised that his statements regarding the Prime Minister were true and Congress MPs with questionable motives had twisted his statements.

He even went on to claim that this incident was a planned conspiracy against him by some Congress leaders.

Although there were several speculations that Abdullakutty would jump ship to the BJP did the rounds, there is no confirmation on this as yet.

He is, of course, known to switch at the blink of an eye. Abdullakutty defeated KPCC President Mulappally Ramachandran two times from the Kannur constituency, in the 1999 and 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Kannur. He was part of the CPI(M) in Kerala then. While an incumbent MP from Kannur, he switched allegiance to the Congress in 2009. He was sacked from the CPI(M) for praising Modi's Gujarat model. With his latest comments praising Modi, it looks like this politician is set to jump ship again, this time to the other end of the ideological spectrum from where he began.
