Three months after a senior police officer, Thrissur range Inspector General (IG) of Police T.J. Jose IPS (conferred) was caught cheating in an examination conducted by the Mahatma Gandhi University, a probe has concluded that he was indeed guilty. The IG who had appeared for the LLM (Master of Laws) examination during the first week of May at St. Paul's College in Kalamassery was accused of taking small chits of paper to the examination hall. A probe by a sub-committee of MG University Syndicate has said that the IG carried chits and did not hand them over to the invigilator, even when demanded. The next meeting of the syndicate will decide on the action to be taken against the officer, but he could be debarred for three years. An hour into the exam, papers torn out from a guide was found in his capacity. Jose left the examination hall refusing to surrender the paper, after the invigilator questioned him without knowing Jose’s designation. In May, Jose had denied reports of ‘copying’ calling it 'fake news'. Other than the university, Kerala DGP Balasubramaniam too had ordered detailed investigation on the issue. Now with the university probe finding the officer guilty, the police department too may take action against the top cop.
