Actors of Malayalam blockbuster Angamaly Diaries were allegedly harassed by the Ernakulam police on Saturday while promoting their film.
Going live on Facebook, Lijo Jose Pellissery, the director of Angamaly Diaries said, “In Muvattupuzha, while our promotion team was travelling in a vehicle, police stopped and abused them badly. Muvattupuzha DySP was heading the team. When the people who should be protecting us are behaving this way, then how can we maintain law and order?”
However, the police said they stopped the vehicle as film posters were pasted on its windows. The police cited the Supreme Court ban on tinted windows for vehicles.
Tito Wilson, one of the actors in the film told the media that the police asked him whether his name should be changed to Pulsar Tito, in reference to the prime accused in the Malayalam actor abduction and alleged rape case, Pulsar Suni.
“They stopped the vehicle and since a female actor was with us they asked us what is happening inside,” Sarath Kumar, who plays the villain in the film, told reporters.
One of the female leads in Angamaly Diaries, Binny Rinky Benjamin alleged that the police were more bothered about her travelling with other male actors.
“If their problem was covering the window pane, they could have questioned us about that. We had permission to do promotions in the vehicle. But instead they asked us what is happening inside,” Binny alleged.
The actors also alleged that police took their photo forcibly in public.
However, Muvattupuzha DySP Biju Mon, however, called the actors’ allegations false and told the media that they stopped the vehicle as its windows were covered by posters.
He also denied that the police abused the actors
