The family of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer M Megha, who died after being hit by a train in Pettah near Thiruvananthapuram, has filed a complaint against her colleague Sukanth Suresh, a Malappuram native and fellow IB officer. Police revealed that 24-year-old Megha’s last phone call was with Sukanth, just moments before her death, and lasted only a few seconds. However, the police have not lodged an FIR yet.
Meanwhile, Sukant Suresh has filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Kerala High Court. Police told TNM that Sukanth is currently absconding and remains untraceable.
Megha's father, Madhusoodanan G, a retired principal of a government undertaking ITI Limited and a resident of Kalanjoor in Pathanamthitta, has alleged that Sukanth financially exploited his daughter.
Speaking to TNM, Madhusoodanan claimed that Megha was threatened and financially drained by Sukanth. "Her bank statements showed that her entire salary was transferred to his account. This must have been due to coercion—why else would she give away all her earnings?" he said.
According to him, until October 2024, Megha’s salary was partially transferred to Sukanth’s account, but from October onwards, her entire salary was transferred to him. She had less than Rs 1,000 in her account at the time of her death. "Around Rs 3.5 lakh was transferred to his account," Madhusoodanan stated.
He added that Megha and Sukanth were in a relationship, something the family became aware of in June 2024. "She mentioned him to me last June but didn’t share much else. I had advised her to ask Sukanth to bring his family so we could discuss marriage," he said.
Megha joined the Intelligence Bureau in December 2023 and was posted in Thiruvananthapuram, while Sukanth was stationed in Ernakulam. "Both of them were together in Jodhpur for training soon after she joined. Whatever information we have—her bank details and other documents—we have handed over to the police," Madhusoodanan added.
Megha, who was the only child, struggled to afford even basic necessities, her father alleged. "Her friends told me that she barely managed to buy food at times, and they would help her. Whenever she needed something, she would call me, and I would travel to Thiruvananthapuram to get it for her. When she came home, she would ask me for money for travel tickets, and I would give it to her. I had no idea she was in such financial distress," he said.
A police officer stated that no FIR has been registered against Sukanth yet. "We are investigating his involvement in the case, but we do not have enough evidence to prove abetment at this point. However, her financial transactions and last call were linked to him, so we need to gather more proof," the officer said.
Megha was an IB officer at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
After completing her night duty, Megha left the Airport early on March 24. Megha´s body was found near the railway tracks. Her identity card, which was found on her, helped the police confirm her identity quickly.
Following the incident, the loco pilot of the Pune-Kanyakumari train reported to the police that, despite repeated warnings, a woman did not move away from the tracks and instead jumped in front of the speeding train.
Megha’s body was brought to her home in Pathanamthitta on the night of March 24 and her last rites were conducted on March 25.
