Indian unit of fast food chain KFC owned by Yum Brands Inc might be in trouble as a worm was reportedly found in a burger at their outlet in City Centre Mall in Mangaluru on Monday.
Times of India reported that a day after the incident was reported, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, UT Khader said that the department would issue a notice to the multi-national food chain.
Khader on Wednesday told that the outlet should have ensured the quality of the food they serve. “We cannot tolerate such lapses by anyone, including an MNC,” he said.
After eating almost half of the burger, Deekshitha, who had come to KFC along with her fiancé Prashan on Monday, was horrified to find two worms in it.
TOI reported that the couple were dissuaded by the outlet manager from complaining and the KFC staff was not responsive to Deekshitha’s queries. The outlet manager claimed the worms could have come with the vegetables
Prashanth told the newspaper that the staff tried to stop them from taking pictures of the worms in the burger
TOI quoted spokesperson for KFC Suraj Kashyap said, “As a responsible brand, KFC is committed to following best international standards and serving the highest quality products to all our customers across all our restaurants. We have regular checks and effective systems in place.”
“The incident was brought to our notice and we invited the customer for a kitchen tour (on Tuesday). After seeing our quality systems and processes, he was convinced about our international standards,” he added.
Speaking on Khader's statement to issue notice to KFC, Suraj said, “We have no information on any notification from the authorities concerned. We will, however, extend our complete cooperation in this matter.”
