Bengaluru-based physician Dr Badakere Chidambar Rao launched his second book, Untold Tales From A Family Physician’s Bag, at the Bangalore International Centre on April 11. The book is a compilation of real-life stories drawn from his five decades of experience as a general physician, offering readers a mix of humour, insight, and reflections on the doctor-patient relationship.
The 83-year-old doctor, widely known as Dr BC Rao, has been practicing physician in Indiranagar for several decades. A graduate of Bangalore Medical College, Dr Rao has long been a trusted figure in the lives of his patients, many of whom have been visiting him for over 50 years.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Rao said the inspiration behind the book was simple: “My patients.” He explained that each case became more than just a medical consultation, it became a story shaped by the patient's personality, background, and the circumstances that brought them to his clinic. “Just narrating incidents is not interesting,” he said. “To make it a story, you have to write about the person, their socio-economic background, their reaction to the illness, all of that matters.”
Former Indian cricketer and president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Roger Binny was the chief guest. The launch event drew over 150 attendees, including Chinmaya Mission Hospital’s Chief Executive retired IPS officer Dr Gopal Hosur and Mohan Kubendra, national president of the Academy of Family Physicians of India.
