1. Garden City of India - Bengaluru emerged as the cleanest capital in the country, while Mysuru topped the list for being the cleanest city, according to the Centre's Swacch Bharat rankings. The rankings were based on taking into account the extent of open defecation and solid waste management in 476 cities. But is the survey clear, is Mysuru really the cleanest city in India, asks Karthik Shashidhar in Mint.
 
2. It was a robbery heist that sought to raise funds to help a murder convict appeal in the Supreme Court. Govindaraju, is lodged in the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru and is serving life imprisonment. He helped two other jail inmates secure bail, on the condition that they would raise funds so that he could appeal against his verdict in the SC. The two, along with another woman broke into 15 houses and collected Rs 22 lakh before they were arrested by the police.
 
3. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the government was committed to going ahead with the construction of Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery river and accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of "politicising" the issue for her benefits. The CM said that the they were not violating the Tribunal Award on the issue. 
 
4. The State Sugar Growers' Association has decided to observe Independence Day on August 15 as a "black day" to protest against the state and central governments failure to tackle farmer suicides. The farmers will  observe a black day across all districts and taluk headquarters to awaken the government from its deep slumber, the Association's President told New Indian Express
