The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) police have begun a search for a 30-year-old Omani national woman and her three minor children who mysteriously disappeared after landing in Bengaluru in September 2017.

“We were alerted by the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman, New Delhi, on Friday. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered and efforts are on to track the family,” said a police officer speaking to The Hindu

The disappearance reportedly took place on September 5, 2017. The woman has been identified as Pinjarewale Sabera Shaikh Husain (30), and her three children — a seven-year-old boy, and two girls aged 11 and four. They landed in Bengaluru and have been missing since then.

After Sabera's husband Al Sariri Nasser Said Khalfan sent a letter to the Oman embassy in New Delhi and registered a complaint, the embassy forwarded it to Bengaluru Police Commissioner on November 2. The KIA police registered an FIR in connection with the case on Friday.

“We came to know about the case only when we received the letter written by the embassy to senior officers. It has been more than a year now but we are trying various means to get information about them. We will write to the airlines seeking their travel details and we will also try to get more details from the complainant,” a senior police officer said speaking to The New Indian Express.

The police admitted that it would be difficult to find out what exactly happened since it has been many months since the disappearance. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the day of the disappearance to try and figure out where she went.

Police are also requesting more information on her visit with the family, the airline she travelled in and the Oman embassy. Police refused to comment on the delay in filing the missing complaint saying that they have not yet spoken to the complainant.
