The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) on Monday, June 30 disconnected power supply to M Chinnaswamy Stadium after the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), which manages the venue, failed to comply with fire-safety protocols.

According to reports, the disconnection was carried out based on recommendations from the Directorate General of Fire and Emergency Services. The move came in the wake of a recent stampede, after which fire officials flagged safety lapses at the stadium and urged immediate action.

“Based on the DG’s recommendation, we served a notice to KSCA in the second week of June and disconnected power for three days,” a senior official told Times of India. Following this, KSCA reportedly requested 15 days’ time to comply with the required safety protocols, but Bescom turned down the request.

Another notice was served on June 20, giving KSCA seven days to comply. Since there was no response even after the deadline passed, Bescom disconnected the power supply on Monday.
