The recently sworn-in nineteen ministers of the Karnataka government were allocated their portfolios, while four ministers, including Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, had their portfolios reshuffled and allocated new ones too on Wednesday, August 12.
The allocation of portfolios comes just a day before the session is set to begin, and ministers are expected to field questions about their departments.
Shivakumar retained several key portfolios, including Finance, Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Intelligence, Information, Law and Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation, Agriculture Marketing, Town and Country Planning, and Urban Local Bodies under BDA and BMRDA. He will also hold all unallocated portfolios.
Zameer Ahmed Khan has been given Housing, while KH Muniyappa has been allocated Social Welfare. UT Khader, who had been given Health and Family Welfare, will also handle Minority Welfare, Haj and Waqf.
R Ramalinga Reddy, who had been allocated Water Resources earlier, has now been given Forest, Ecology and Environment.
Lakshman Savadi has been allocated Cooperation, excluding Agriculture Marketing, while Rudrappa Manappa Lamani will handle Sugar and Textiles. Shivaraj Tangadagi has been given Backward Classes Welfare and Kannada and Culture, while T Raghumurthy will handle ST Welfare.
Ajay Singh has been allocated Minor Irrigation and Science and Technology, while Cheluvarayaswamy will handle Major and Medium Irrigation. Madhu Bangarappa has been given Primary and Secondary Education and Basavaraj Raya Reddy Higher Education.
Shivalinge Gowda has been allocated Excise, while Puttaranga Shetty will handle Animal Husbandry and Sericulture. Vijayananda Kashappanavar has been given Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises, while Santhosh Lad will handle Labour and Employment, a portfolio he held earlier under the Siddaramaiah government.
KS Basavanthappa has been allocated Muzrai, Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water. SS Mallikarjun will handle Mines and Geology and Horticulture, while first time minister Rizwan Arshad has been given Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
Narendra Swamy has been allocated Agriculture, HC Balakrishna Municipal Administration, and B Nagendra Planning and Statistics.
The portfolio allocation comes after Shivakumar decided against an immediate Cabinet reshuffle following discussions with the Congress high command in Delhi. After returning to Bengaluru on Monday, Shivakumar had said the government would consider a reshuffle, including the induction of a woman minister, after the monsoon session.
