As the state gears up for the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, organisers have made plans to ensure that all houses in Mandya town, where the festival is to be held between December 20 and 22, will fly the yellow-and-red Kannada flag.
Mandya MLA and an organiser of the Sammelana, P Ravikumar, has undertaken the responsibility of roping in the residents of the city to fly the flag. The district administration too will lend support to the move, Kannada daily Vijaya Karnataka reported.
The initiative was launched two days ago by Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Mahesh Joshi, district in-charge minister N Chaluvarayaswamy and Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumar at a house in Swarnasandra in Mandya town.
The Sammelana organisers will provide flags to 25,000 houses and commercial buildings in Mandya, Vijaya Karnataka reported. The flag will measure 3 x 1.6 feet.
Twenty-eight committees have been set up to look into various aspects of organising the three-day festival. Nearly 500 book stalls and 300 commercial stalls will be part of the festival.
An elaborate food festival too will be part of the Sammelana and participants can sample dishes from across the state through around 300 stalls that will be set up at the festival venue.
