An FIR has been registered at the High Grounds police station against Bengaluru’s Southeast CEN (Cybercrime, economic offences and narcotics) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Govardhan and his colleague Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashwini after Govardhan’s wife, Amrutha, accused him of having an extramarital affair with the woman officer. Amrutha also alleged that Govardhan and his mother tried to kill her when she confronted him about the relationship.

Amrutha stated in her complaint that Govardhan had distanced himself from their family following his promotion to the rank of Deputy SP. She alleged that when she questioned him about his relationship with Ashwini, he physically assaulted her and attempted to kill her. Amrutha provided chat records as evidence with her complaint.

Her lawyer, Greeshma, said, “The complaint names Govardhan, his mother Gnanamani, and Ashwini. Govardhan and Amrutha were married in 2008 and have an eight-year-old daughter.” According to her, Govardhan worked as a doctor before joining the police force.

The lawyer further said that Ashwini frequently called and messaged Govardhan. When she objected, Govardhan started abusing and torturing her. On January 7, 2024, he allegedly assaulted her, causing her to fear for her life.

According to The Times of India, the FIR accuses Govardhan, his mother Gnanamani, Ashwini, and the DySP’s father of multiple offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 109 (abetment to murder). Amrutha claimed that Govardhan once kicked her in the stomach and threatened to divorce her. When she pleaded with Ashwini to stay away from her husband, Ashwini allegedly threatened to frame her in false cases and declared that she would marry Govardhan after his divorce.

Amrutha also alleged that Govardhan’s mother poured kerosene on her and tried to set her on fire, the report said. She said that after threatening to report the incident to the police, Govardhan and his father begged her not to file a complaint and promised to resolve the issue. However, the harassment continued, she alleged. In February 2023, she raised the matter with the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP). Although Govardhan was transferred to Chitradurga, Amrutha claimed that Ashwini continued to pressure her for a divorce.

Govardhan and Ashwini were part of the 2011 KPSC batch. Although their appointments were canceled due to allegations of irregularities and corruption, they rejoined the police service in 2022 after obtaining favuorable court orders.
