The Bengaluru police have registered a murder case against the wife and daughter of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, after he was found dead at his residence in HSR Layout on Sunday, April 20. The 68-year-old retired IPS officer was discovered with multiple stab injuries, and his wife, Pallavi Prakash (65), was initially detained. Now, both Pallavi and the couple’s daughter Kriti have been booked based on a complaint filed by Om Prakash’s son, Kartikesh.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Kartikesh alleged a long-standing history of domestic discord between his parents, including threats to his father’s life from his mother. He stated that due to repeated altercations, Om Prakash had recently moved out and was staying at his sister Sarita Kumari’s residence in the city.

“My mother Pallavi and my sister Kriti used to fight with my father often. For the past week, my mother had been threatening to kill him,” Kartikesh alleged in his complaint. “Two days ago, my sister Kriti went to Sarita Kumari’s house and pressured my father to return home against his will,” he added.

On Sunday evening, Kartikesh was informed by a neighbour that his father was found unconscious in the house. He rushed to the residence but found his father lying dead in a pool of blood.

Kartikesh claimed that both Pallavi and Kriti were “suffering from depression” and often engaged in verbal spats with Om Prakash. Based on these allegations, the police have booked the two women.

Om Prakash, a 1981-batch IPS officer, served in several key roles including Superintendent of Police in various districts, was part of the Lokayukta, and the head of the Fire and Emergency Services. He was appointed Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) in 2015 and retired in 2017.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
