The Karnataka State Commission for Women on Monday, June 28, directed the police to take action against those harassing Kannada actor and former MP Ramya for her remarks on the Renukaswamy murder case. The actor has reportedly been receiving a barrage of rape and death threats online, allegedly from supporters of actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, an accused in the crime.

Recently, while welcoming the Supreme Court’s observations in the case, Ramya posted on Instagram, “SC is a ray of hope for the common people of India – justice for the family of Renukaswamy.” The Supreme Court had strongly criticised the High Court’s decision to grant bail to Darshan, one of the accused, stating that the HC had “basically dictated an order of acquittal” for all seven accused.

Soon after Ramya’s post, her social media accounts were flooded with hostile comments and threats, including rape and death threats.

Responding to the backlash, Ramya shared an Instagram story addressing Darshan’s fans: “To all the DBoss fans — Welcome to my Instagram :) Your comments are proof why Renukaswamy’s family needs justice!”

Speaking to India Today, the actor-politician said she would meet the Bengaluru Police Commissioner on Monday to formally pursue legal action against those issuing threats and abusing her online.

Ramya has previously faced similar cyberbullying following Darshan’s arrest after she had commented, “No one is above the law. No one should take the law into their hands.”

Meanwhile, an official fan page associated with Darshan urged followers not to retaliate or respond to criticism online. The message read, “True fans who respect D Boss should not react to any provocation. Do not message anyone, do not fall into any trap, do not get disheartened by criticism. Let this be a stepping stone to do even better work in society.”

Darshan, currently out on bail, was recently seen visiting temples across Karnataka and had reportedly travelled to Thailand to shoot for his upcoming film Devil, before returning to Bengaluru.
