The Bengaluru city police have registered a case against unknown people after three cows were found with their udders severed on Sunday, January 12. Cottonpete Police told TNM that a case had been registered under Section 325 (killing or maiming an animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the basis of a complaint by Karuna, the owner of the cows.

The police said that the incident, which occurred near the Dandu Mariyamma Temple near Almas School in Chamrajpete in western Bengaluru, came to light on Sunday morning when the owner went to milk the cows. “We don’t yet know who has done it. An investigation is on,” a police officer said.

The incident has sparked outrage with the Opposition BJP accusing the Congress government of appeasing Muslims, and targeting Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, who is five-time MLA from Chamrajapet.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R Ashoka told the media, “It is clear that this is an attempt to create a mini-Pakistan.” He claimed that the police were afraid to visit the spot of the incident along with him. “This is the situation here. Neither the nation or dharma are important for the Congress. Only power is important to them. They will do anything for power,” Ashoka said.

BJP state president BY Vijayendra issued a statement saying that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should take action against the forces indulging in such activities.

Sri Rama Sene founder Pramod Muthalik condemned the incident and said that cows were very important to Hindus and farmers. He targeted Zameer Ahmed, saying that he should take the incident seriously and warned of a state-wide protest.

Home Minister G Parameshwara has said that the government will investigate the case.
