Former MP and Congress leader DK Suresh has written to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner seeking action against a woman and her associates who had pretended to be connected to him to cheat people.

In his letter to Commissioner B Dayananda, Suresh, the brother of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, said he had come across media reports that a woman was cheating the public by misusing his name. “It has been reported in the media that one Aishwarya Gowda alias Navyashri has cheated many people of gold and cash by misusing my name. I urge you to take strict action against her misusing my name. I also appeal to you to ensure that such misuse and cheating do not happen in the future,” the complaint sent on December 30 said.

A woman named Aishwarya Gowda and her husband Harish KN are accused of cheating Vanitha S Aithal, owner of Vaarahi World of Gold in Chandra Layout. Aishwarya claimed that she was Suresh’s sister and a businesswoman and allegedly conned Vanitha into lending her over 14 kg of gold worth over Rs 8 crore between October 2023 and January 2024.

When Vanitha demanded the return of the jewellery, they kept stalling. According to the FIR, on one such occasion, Harish called the former MP, who asked Vanitha for more time to return the gold. Vanitha later learnt that the person who had allegedly impersonated Suresh was another person named Dharmendra B, according to the FIR. Dharmendra is a Kannada actor and goes by the name Dharma.

Chandra Layout registered a case against Aishwarya, her husband Harish, and Dharmendra B on Monday, December 30. The FIR has invoked Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Aishwarya and Harish have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody, while Dharma is said to be absconding.
