The mother of a teenager who was killed during the stampede in Bengaluru on June 4 has alleged that her daughter’s jewellery was stolen from her body.

Ashwini Shivakumar, the mother of 13-year-old Divyanshi, who died in the stampede, filed a complaint with the Commercial Street Police Station on Thursday, July 24, alleging that her daughter’s 6 gm gold earrings and about 6 gm gold chain worth about Rs 1 lakh were stolen.

She said in her complaint that when she saw her daughter Divyanshi’s body at the mortuary at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institution (formerly called Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital), the jewellery was on her body.

However, the jewellery was not found on her during the post-mortem and was not handed over to her after the autopsy was completed, Ashwini said.

“I did not realise this until much later. The stolen gold earrings and chain are among the last reminders of my daughter, and I am deeply attached to them. Kindly find the culprits and take suitable action against them,” Ashwini said in her complaint.

Thirteen-year-old Divyanshi was one of 11 people who died in the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. The others who died in the stampede included three minors and people in their 20s and 30s

Lakhs of people had gathered outside Chinnaswamy Stadium and at Vidhana Soudha to felicitate Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after they won the Indian Premier League tournament for the first time in 18 years.

The lapses on the part of the organisers, RCB team officials, the police and government officials, which led to massive crowds gathering at the stadium and eventually led to the stampede, are now being examined by the police, a judicial commission and the Karnataka High Court.
