The Karnataka Cabinet on Friday, December 6, approved Phase 3A of the Bengaluru Metro’s Red Line, which will connect Sarjapur in southeastern Bengaluru with Hebbal in the north. The project proposal, estimated to cost Rs 28,405 crore, will now be forwarded to the Union Cabinet for approval, as the Union government holds a 50% equity stake in Namma Metro.
In June 2024, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) submitted a detailed project report (DPR) for the 37-km Hebbal-Sarjapur corridor to the State government. The line will go through key areas, including Agara, Koramangala, and Dairy Circle. Approximately 16.8 km of the route, spanning from Koramangala to Hebbal, will run underground.
Key locations such as Bellandur, St John’s Hospital, NIMHANS, Central College, Cunningham Road, and Mehkri Circle will be connected by the corridor. The elevated section between Sarjapur and Koramangala 3rd Block will feature 15 stations, while the underground stretch from Koramangala 2nd Block to Veterinary College will include 11 stations.
