A 36-year-old woman named Harini was allegedly brutally murdered by a 25-year-old IT professional, Yashas, in a hotel room in Bengaluru’s Poorna Prajna Layout late Friday, June 6, night. The incident, which occurred in an OYO hotel, came to light two days later on June 8.

Both the victim and the accused were residents of Kengeri, a western suburb of Bengaluru. Police said the two had checked into the hotel two days earlier. On the night of the murder, a heated argument reportedly broke out between them, following which Yashas allegedly stabbed Harini 17 times with a knife, resulting in her death.

“A murder was reported from Subramanyapura police station on the intervening night of June 6 and 7. The woman wanted to end the friendship and was trying to distance herself from him. Out of anger and jealousy, the man stabbed the woman to death,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalasar.

Harini was a mother of two. Her family had recently become aware of the relationship with Yashas, which had begun to cause strain in her personal life. She reportedly informed the accused that she could no longer continue the relationship, which police believe may have triggered the violent attack.

The Subramanyapura police have registered a case and arrested Yashas.
