Bengaluru man arrested for sexually harassing two women in public spaces

Bengaluru police have arrested 37-year-old S Madan for sexually harassing two women in separate incidents that occurred within minutes of each other on the evening of June 6. The attacks took place around 7 PM near Basha Departmental Stores and Milton Street Park in the Cooke Town.

The first survivor, a 28-year-old woman, was assaulted near Basha Stores after stepping out to buy food. Madan forcibly kissed her on the lips and left her injured.

Just minutes later, Madan entered Milton Street Park, only 52 metres away and targeted a second woman, aged 42, who was walking with her child and a friend. She spoke to TNM, recounting the shock and fear the attack caused. Read here.

Police identified the accused as S Madan, a resident of Banaswadi and a former employee of a private firm who is currently unemployed due to personal reasons.  He was arrested and produced before a magistrate, who remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.

A case has been registered at the Pulakeshinagar police station under Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman) and 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha.
