The Bengaluru police on Sunday, June 29, arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly murdering his live-in partner and disposing of her body in a municipal garbage truck in the city’s Channammanakere Achukattu area following a domestic dispute. The accused, identified as Samshuddin, is a native of Assam, police said.
According to the police, Samshuddin and the deceased, Asha (40), were working for a housekeeping company and had been in a relationship for the past 18 months.
While Asha, a widow from Bengaluru, had two adopted children living in a hostel, Samshuddin was married, with his wife and children residing in Assam. The two had been cohabiting in Bengaluru for the past five to six months.
The couple often argued over domestic issues, police said. On Saturday, a heated altercation allegedly broke out after Asha returned home inebriated. During the argument, Samshuddin allegedly suffocated her to death.
Police said Samshuddin then wrapped Asha’s body in a plastic sheet, placed it inside a gunny bag, and transported it on his two-wheeler. After searching for a location to dump the body, he allegedly left it inside a parked BBMP garbage truck near a sports complex in Banashankari II Stage.
The murder came to light around 1.45 am on Sunday when a local resident, Mohamad Mustaf, a software engineer, approached the garbage truck to dispose of household waste. Mustaf spotted hair and blood on the bag and immediately alerted Channammanakere Achukattu police.
A murder case was registered at Channammanakere Achukattu police station under sections related to murder and destruction of evidence. Based on CCTV footage and other technical evidence, police tracked down and arrested Samshuddin from the Hulimavu area. He is currently in police custody and being interrogated.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalasar said that the couple had rented a house posing as a married couple, though documentation is yet to be verified.
