The Bengaluru police on Thursday, July 24 arrested a 19-year-old food delivery executive for allegedly secretly filming and photographing women in public places and uploading the content on social media platform Instagram to gain followers.
The accused, identified as M D Dilavar Hussain from Manipur, posted the videos on his page titled ‘DILBAR JAANI-07’ with the tagline “Bangalore Night Life”. Most of the videos were recorded in popular areas like Church Street, Brigade Road and MG Road, police said.
The Ashok Nagar police have registered a suo motu case against him under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which deals with the publication or transmission of obscene material in electronic form.
This is not the first such incident reported in Bengaluru. On July 9, police arrested a 26-year-old hotel management graduate for recording voyeuristic videos of women on the streets, zooming in on their bodies, and uploading them to Instagram.
In another case in May, an accountant was arrested for filming women on Namma Metro trains and posting the content on a now-deactivated Instagram account called ‘Bangalore Metro Clicks’. That account had over 5,600 followers, while its associated Telegram channel had more than 1,100 subscribers.
