Ten days after he slipped into his coma, 5-year-old Lakshay P on Tuesday continues to be on ventilator support although his kidney, heart and lungs are showing signs of stabilising.
“The boy continues to be on ventilator support. The doctors have not given a time limit as such on when he will be out of it. But the 3rd MRI shows the kidney, heart and lungs are gaining stability. The extent of damage to the brain is yet to be known,” Vinod Reddy, a close family friend told The News Minute.
On June 10, Lakshay had slipped into a coma during a surgery at Mallya Hospital after he was admitted for a plastic surgery on his ring finger.
The family says that there has been some problem while administering the anaesthesia.
There doctors told the parent that even if the child is out ventilator, he might fail to recognise his parents or might end up paralyzed.
Doctors at Mallya Hospital had said that Lakshay required the surgery on his left hand after he injured himself while playing on a desk in his classroom in school. His middle finger had to be amputated and the doctors had suggested a surgery to save the ring finger.
On Monday, the boy’s father Purushottam told TNM, “Three hours before he went into surgery he was playing. There was nothing wrong with him.”
Hours after the child went into surgery, doctors at Mallya Hospital said that Lakshay, due to complications, had slipped into coma. He was since shifted to Manipal Hospital, Purushottam said.
Purushottam said that he was currently not in a position to file a complaint with the police and Karnataka Medical Council against Mallya Hospital doctors for medical negligence.
