Two separate instances of cow slaughter, allegedly in violation of the law, were reported from Bidar and Yadgir districts in northern Karnataka.

Bidar district police arrested four people on Sunday, June 8, in connection with the slaughter of a cow in a shed located on Rampur Road on the outskirts of Kamalnagar town.

According to Prajavani, Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti confirmed the arrests and said that a buffalo and four calves were rescued and shifted to a local cow shelter. “A cow was killed in a shed, and four people were arrested as soon as the matter came to light. Protests were held even after the arrest of the accused,” he said.

The incident sparked widespread protests from members of right-wing organisations, including Bajrang Dal, Vishva Hindu Parishad, and BJP workers, who took out a bike rally through the town, forcibly shut shops, and burnt tyres at Allama Prabhu Circle.

Although media reports said that the carcass was taken through the town in a procession before it was burned at the Syed Peer Basha grounds, TNM could not independently verify this.

Senior district administration and police officials visited the site and inspected the shed where the cow was allegedly slaughtered. Police said they had recovered severed parts of the cow and would take further action based on forensic evidence.

A case has been registered, and security in the area has been tightened as a precaution.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shivanand Pavadashetty stated that additional District Armed Reserve (DAR) forces had been deployed in Kamalnagar to maintain law and order.

A case has been registered at the Vadagera police station in Yadgir district over cow slaughter allegedly in violation of the law.

Bajrang Dal activists claimed that over 20 cows had been slaughtered in Gurusunagi village in Vadagera taluk. Police said beef, cow hides, and horns were recovered from the site. Two cows were rescued, while the alleged offenders fled the scene.
