15-year-old dies after stampede occurs during RCB’s victory celebration in Bengaluru

Among the victims of the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 4, was 15-year-old Divyamshi, who was brought dead to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institution (formerly Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute). Fans had gathered in large numbers to welcome the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team, leading to a deadly crowd surge.

Divyamshi, a Class 9 student, had reportedly gone to the stadium along with her family. Her grandfather, Lakshmi Narayan, told the media that Divyamshi had gone to the stadium along with her mother, her aunt and two other relatives. “I got a call from them in the afternoon. I told them to be careful. I don’t know what happened at the gate. I was at home when it happened. I came here as soon as I heard,” he said.

Lakshmi Narayana told the media that Divyamshi was a Class 9 student at Poorna Prajna School and the family is from Kannuru. 

She was among six people declared dead at the Bowring Hospital.

The stampede situation occurred around 4 PM near Chinnaswamy Stadium while the RCB team was being felicitated by the state government outside Vidhana Soudha.

At Vydehi Superspeciality Hospital on Vittal Mallya Road, a doctor who wished to remain anonymous confirmed to TNM that 13 people were brought in. Of them, four were declared dead, while the remaining nine were in stable condition.

At least ten people lost their lives in a tragic incident on Wednesday, June 4, after a stampede broke out near Vidhana Soudha and Chinnaswamy Stadium, where large crowds had gathered to catch a glimpse of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricket team.

Staff at Bowring Hospital and Vydehi Hospital confirmed receiving multiple victims. Dr Manoj Kumar, Director of Bowring Hospital, said that six individuals were brought dead to their facility. Vydehi Hospital admitted thirteen injured persons, nine of whom are reported to be in stable condition.

As crowds surged towards the stadium gates, many people fainted and required immediate medical attention. Police personnel assisted in moving them to safety.
