On the occasion of Unni Mukundan’s birthday last Sunday, the makers of Mamangam released a new poster featuring him. In the attractive poster, the star is seen kneeling down in deep thoughts with his sword resting on the ground. From the poster it is evident that Unni Mukundan has an important role to play.
In an interview to the Times of India, Unni Mukundan revealed about his role thus: “My character Chandroth Panicker, on paper, was a guy who along with the other chaavers live in a war space and hence have a different mindset. The physicality and intensity are very different in Mamangam, considering it is set 400 years ago when life was harsh. Though it’s based on a true story, it has fictional elements and even the way the dialogues have to be narrated was different. All of these were very new to me.”
Revealing more, the actor said that he had dedicated a lot of time to get into the skin of the character, something that he has never done before so far. The actor added that while the filmmakers never actually compelled him to get “into any particular shape”, he did it on his own.
Mamangam, made on a budget of Rs 50 crore, is being directed by M Padma Kumar. The film is a historical based on a medieval fair for the warriors. The film has four heroines, Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and Abhirami V Iyer in the star cast. The film has Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh wielding the camera, M Jayachandran scoring the music, Sreekar Prasad in charge of the editing, and Kaecha Khamphakdee choreographing the stunts. It is being bankrolled by Venu Kunnampilly under the banner Kavya Films.
