Following the box office success of Bigil, actor Vijay has commenced shooting for his next, tentatively titled Thalapathy 64 directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of Maanagaram and Kaithi fame.  

The shooting of the film is underway and the crew has completed shooting two schedules already.  Malayalam star Antony Varghese of Angamaly Diaries fame was roped in to play an important negative role in this film. The latest update is that Antony who was supposed to join the team in the upcoming Shimoga schedule has opted out of the project stating date clashes. Now the makers have roped in Arjun Das as a replacement. RJ-turned-actor Arjun Das, made heads turn as the ruthless Anbu in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi.

The makers have recently got permission from the district administration to shoot important sequences in and around Shivamogga prison in Karnataka. The shooting is expected to go on floors this week which will last for 40 days. Built in 1897, the prison is spread over 46 acres and has housed several freedom fighters belonging to the region. After attaining independence, it became a district prison.

Touted to be a dark action-thriller, set in the backdrop of a college, there are rumors that the film will feature Vijay in the role of a college professor. The film will be predominantly shot against a college backdrop.

It’ll be the first time Vijay will be seen playing a professor. The film will see Vijay Sethupathi play the antagonist and he’s believed to be essaying a deadly character. Malavika Mohanan, last seen playing a key role in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta, has been signed as the leading lady. The film also stars Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu and Ramya Subramanian.

Bankrolled by XB Film Creators, the film will have music by Anirudh Ravichander. Sathyan Sooryan will crank the camera while Philomin Raj will take care of editing. The film is expected to release in April next year.
