Singer Kalpana Raghavendar has issued a statement clarifying that she did not attempt suicide but had accidentally consumed a heavy dosage of sleeping pills, which led to her falling unconscious. Dismissing speculations of marital disputes, she expressed gratitude to her husband, Prasad Prabhakar, and daughter, Daya Prasad Prabhakar, for their support. Kalpana is known for her songs in both Telugu and Tamil.

“At this age, I am pursuing a PhD and LLB while also focusing on my music career intensively. This has led to high levels of stress, causing insomnia. I have been taking medication for this condition. On that particular day, I took a heavy dosage, which affected my lungs and caused me to lose consciousness,” she stated.

She expressed gratitude to her husband for immediately alerting the police and coordinating with hospital staff despite being out of town at the time. “Do not believe in any rumors. I do not have any personal issues or problems,” she asserted. She thanked the police, her fans, and colleagues for their prayers and support. Kalpana said that she will soon entertain everyone with her performance.

Kalpana was rushed to a private hospital in Hyderabad on March 2 after she was found unconscious, leading to widespread media reports about an alleged suicide attempt.

The singer was placed on ventilator support. Denying rumours of disputes in the family, her daughter too had clarified earlier that Kalpana did not attempt suicide, urging people not to spread misinformation.
