Ever since actor Vijay announced the title of his next film with director AR Murugadoss, Sarkar, social media has been overflowing with comments from people trying to read between the lines. The film’s audio launch that was held at a private engineering college in Chennai on Tuesday, therefore, has now amplified speculation on the actor’s political intentions.
Speaking at the audio launch that was telecast live on Sun TV, actor Vijay who is well known for his very brief responses and poker face, chose to give an elaborate speech with ample political innuendo.
Lines like “There was a bit of politics in Mersal. Here, he’s (referring to AR Murugadoss) done ‘mersal' in politics,” “You can work however hard you want to attain success but there’s a group that's working hard so you don’t succeed,” and his repeated references to his fans as nanba and nanbi (referring to male and female friends), received loud cheers from the crowd.
After having appreciated the efforts put in by the film’s cast and crew, Vijay said, “People will contest in the elections, rally for it and then form government but we have already formed our sarkar (government) and now we are going to contest in the elections,” followed by a clever “I meant only the film,” that came only as a precautionary after-thought.
While he refuted speculation that he would be playing the Chief Minister in this film, he answered actor Prasanna’s ‘hypothetical’ question on what he’d do if he were to become one with a “I wouldn’t just act like the Chief Minister, I would be sincere,” while the crowds went berserk. The actor also said that if he did become the CM in the future, he would want to root out corruption in the state. Vijay also spoke about how virtuous a leader should be, narrating a short story.
Vijay’s speech at the audio launch has fuelled imaginations, with many wondering about his political aspirations.
Sun Network’s Kalanidhi Maran, who is producing this film, had only words of appreciation for Vijay. Equating the actor with the Superstar Rajinikanth, Kalanidhi Maran said that like Rajinikanth, Vijay is also a very humble person. He also said, “Vijay has done plenty of films and characters. There’s another stage after this, Rajinikanth has already done that.”
While fans erupted into loud cheers, Kalanidhi Maran clarified that Vijay would eventually be doing what they were thinking, but what he meant was that Vijay should be doing a national level 3D film!
“This will take ‘Illayathalapathi’ Vijay of Tamil cinema to National cinema,” he said, while those in the audience broke into laughter.
Stating that Vijay never craved for publicity, Kalanidhi Maran pointed out his low-profile visit to Thoothukudi to meet the families of the victims. He remarked that while stars would have an entourage of journalists and camerapersons accompanying them on tours, Vijay had never done that.
AR Murugadoss, the film’s director, said that Sarkar wasn't just a satire, mocking a particular leader. “This will touch the bottom of your heart. It won’t be just an entertaining film, we’ve tried to bring out the thoughts that reflect in everyone’s minds,” he said.
The album has five songs including the two that were released earlier - ‘Simtaangaran, ‘Oruviral Puratchi, ‘Toptucker’, ‘OMG Ponnu’ and ‘CEO in the House’. The songs like 'CEO in the house' and 'OMG Ponnu' have plenty of English lines. Singers Nakul Abhyankar, Blaaze, Srinidhi Venkatesh, Mohit Chauhan, Sid Sriram, Jonita Gandhi and AR Rahman have rendered their voices for the songs in Sarkar. All the songs have been penned by lyricist Vivek. Sony Music has grabbed the audio rights for this film.
AR Murugadoss and Vijay teaming up for the third time after the success of Thuppaki and Kaththi and fans are hopeful that the duo would score a hat-trick at the box office with Sarkar.
Sarkar has two leading ladies – Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar – in the star cast. Those in the supporting roles include Arjun Sarja, Prem Kumar, Yogi Babu, Radha Ravi, and Pala.
The film is scheduled to be a Deepavali release this year and its post-production and promos are happening at a breakneck speed right now.
