Telugu actor Ravi Teja is facing flak for using the derogatory phrase “Mudhuru Munda” while referring to child actor Nakshathra CM at the pre-release event of his upcoming film Irumudi. Nakshathra, who plays Ravi Teja’s daughter in the film, had affectionately asked the actor what nickname he would give her. He responded with the phrase, which literally translates to a “mature widow”. In this instance, the term indicates someone who acts too old for their age.
Many have criticised the objectionable comment saying that it is inappropriate, particularly when directed at a child in a public event. It also led to counterarguments, saying that the phrase is used colloquially or affectionately in some cultural contexts.
The incident comes ahead of the release of Irumudi, directed by Shiva Nirvana and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film is an emotional family drama centred on the relationship between Ravi Teja’s character and his young daughter. According to reports, Ravi Teja plays a flawed father whose life takes a turn after his daughter asks him to give up alcohol. He subsequently undertakes an Ayyappa Deeksha, with the spiritual journey forming an important part of the film’s story.
While Priya Bhavani Shankar plays the female lead, the cast also includes Sai Kumar, Ajay Ghosh, Ramesh Indira, and Swasika. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music for the film.
Irumudi is Ravi Teja’s 77th film and marks his first collaboration with Shiva Nirvana. The actor is heavily banking on the success of this film after a series of flops over the years. His last film was comedy drama Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi, which released on January 13 and was poorly received at the box-office.
Irumudi is scheduled to hit theatres in Telugu and Tamil on August 21.
