Telugu actor Chiranjeevi’s recent comments on his desire to have a grandson have sparked backlash, with several dubbing the megastar’s comments as sexist. At the pre-release event held recently for Brahma Anandam starring actor Brahmanandam, Chiranjeevi remarked that he wished his son had a boy since he felt like the warden of a ladies' hostel as he was constantly surrounded by women at home.
"When I'm at home, it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by women all around. I keep wishing and telling Charan (his son and actor Ram Charan), at least this time, to have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye," Chiranjeevi said.
Discussing his granddaughter Klin Kaara, Chiranjeevi said that he is scared that his son might have another girl child. Klin Kaara was born in June 2023 and is the daughter of Ram Charan and his entrepreneur wife Upasana Kamineni.
The actor received significant backlash on the internet, with several dubbing his comments regressive and pointing out that ‘legacy’ can be carried forward by women as well.
Apart from son Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi has two daughters, Sreeja Konidela and Sushmita Konidela. Sreeja has two daughters, Naviksha and Nivrati, as does Sushmita—her daughters are Samara and Samhitha.
