Just a day after Bigg Boss Kannada Season 5 kicked off, its youngest contestant, Niveditha Gowda, has become the butt of jokes for her alleged inability to speak Kannada.
When she was being introduced as a contestant, actor Sudeep, who is hosting the reality show, made sarcastic remarks about her inability to speak the language properly.
Commenting on her ‘Kanglish’ (English mixed Kannada), Sudeep asked, “Who taught her Kannada? Do you speak Kannada at home? Then where did this Kannada come from?”
Soon after her introduction, Facebook pages including Troll haiklu, Namma karnataka Memes, Troll Bro, and Troll Sisya among other pages, began making fun of the 18-year-old contestant.
Niveditha’s mother, meanwhile, has come to her defence, saying, “She studied in Atomic Central Energic School and she had no opportunity to learn Kannada there. We speak Kannada at home and have tried to teach her the language. She does speak the language but she mixes a bit of English in it, which has become popular.”
“An accent which gives you cancer.”
“She studied in a college in Mysuru but that school did not have Kannada subject. What kind of school is this?”
Niveditha was born and brought up in Mysuru and was pursuing BCA in Mahajan First Grade College in Mysuru. It is not only her accent, which has made her fodder for trolls, she has also been trolled mercilessly for her “inability to do household chores.”
“A fashion freak girl does nothing in her home. It is said that she has not cooked, and has not indulged in any of the household activities,” reported Kannada Matinee, a popular entertainment website, adding to the sexist trolls.
Niveditha Gowda is a popular Dubsmash artiste and has contributed to various Kannada movies, like Sudeep’s Kempegowda, Veera Madakari, and Bachchan.
Niveditha has currently skipped her semester exams and has decided to contest in the reality show.
