After a sexually explicit, AI-generated video of the popular Telugu song “Chuttamalle” from Devara: Part 1 surfaced on the internet, actors Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor came out in condemnation, calling it “disgusting” and “disturbing”.

Released in September 2024, the film stars Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. “Chuttamalle”, a romantic number composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Shilpa Rao, became popular when it was released.

The new AI video manipulates Janhvi’s appearance to make it sexually explicit and vulgar, raising alarm about the misuse of AI to objectify women.

“In a land that worships women as mothers and goddesses, where "Matrudevo Bhava" is not just a phrase but a part of our culture, some people have fallen so low that they are using AI to disrespect a woman in the most degrading way possible. Using AI to create something this vile is shameful beyond words,” Jr NTR wrote on social media platform X.

Urging netizens not to engage with the video or share it, the actor also vowed to take legal action against those behind it.

“To the scumbags behind this morphed ‘Chuttamalle’ video, I will not spare any of you. I will take every possible legal action against those who created it and those who are spreading it.

Please do not watch, share or engage with such content. Today it is someone else. Tomorrow, it could be your mother, sister, wife, or daughter. This is a serious issue, and I urge all the state governments and the Government of India to act strongly and bring in strict regulations against the misuse of AI,” he further wrote.

Janhvi also posted on X, citing this as a “clear misuse of AI”.

“It’s disturbing to see AI-generated fake videos being circulated. Please don’t create, share, or promote such content. This is a clear misuse of AI. Legal action will definitely be taken against those involved,” she wrote.

This is not the first time that AI has been used to generate fake, explicit videos of women actors. Previously, actors Rukmini Vasanth, Shalini Pandey, Alia Bhatt, and Rashmika Mandanna, among others, have spoken against such practices, urging tighter legal scrutiny.
