Hollywood stunt director Larnell Stovall has been roped in to choreograph the boxing sequences in the Kannada film Phailwan. The film has Kiccha Sudeep playing the lead role and he will be seen as a professional boxer in it. This required the filmmakers to create some realistic fight sequences following which the Hollywood stunt director has been brought on board. Sudeep also underwent special training in boxing and wrestling in Thailand to get into the skin of the character.

Though it will be Larnell Stovall’s first time in the Kannada film industry choreographing the stunts, he is a well known name in Indian cinema having worked in films such as the Salman Khan starrer Sultan, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali and Akshay Kumar’s Brothers. The stunt director has choreographed stunts for Hollywood films such as Captain America: Civil War, Kick Boxer, Ride Along, The Hunger Games, Dragon Eyes and Undisputed 3.

Produced and directed by S Krishna, this film marks his collaboration with Sudeep for the second time after the massive success of Hebbuli last year. Incidentally, S Krishna will be making his debut as a producer with Phailwan by bankrolling it under his banner RRR Productions. Arjun Janya has been roped in to compose the tunes for Phailwan while Karunakar will be cranking the camera. The film’s star cast also includes Suniel Shetty, Sharath Lohithashwa, Sushant Singh and Akanksha Singh. Interestingly, this film will mark Suniel Shetty’s debut in the Kannada film industry.

It may be mentioned that a video has been released on the making of Phailwan and it has caught the attention of the movie buffs in a big way. In the video, there are clippings that show the efforts the star had put in to transform himself into a professional wrestler. He plays a boxer and wrestler in Phailwan and interestingly it would be Sudeep’s first ever sports-based film.
