Director Atlee Kumar made his debut with the Arya and Nayanthara starrer Raja Rani, which was a massive hit. He then topped it up with two Vijay films – Theri and Mersal – which again were blockbusters. And all the three films were dubbed in Telugu and garnered positive responses. This naturally won the director accolades among the Tollywood audiences as well.

With three Telugu dubbed films – Raja Rani, Policeodu and Adhirindi – to his credit, his fans felt that it was just a matter of time that he would wield the megaphone for a direct Telugu flick. Well, the news is that it is all set to happen soon and Atlee is busy with the scripting of his first Telugu venture. The film will be bankrolled by ace producer Ashwini Dutt and the director is looking for a suitable hero to play the lead role.

Earlier, reports suggested that Jr NTR was in talks with Atlee but looks like the project won’t materialise for now. The star is busy with the untitled Trivikram Srinivas directorial right now and will be moving over to the SS Rajamouli directed multi starrer in which he will be sharing screen space with Ram Charan. This film is scheduled to go on to the floors later this year.

Yet another top contender to star in the Atlee directorial happens to be Prabhas. However, with his upcoming film Saaho getting delayed for various reasons, it looks like Atlee may choose another star. According to sources in the know, the director may approach Allu Arjun as his Naa Peru Surya is due for release on May 4th and the star is yet to decide on his next. If things move well, Atlee may be able to get a nod from Allu Arjun.

Atlee's last release, Vijay's Mersal, become the fourth Tamil movie to earn Rs 200 crore worldwide. It has surpassed records held by Vishwaroopam in the US, Kabali in the UK and is very close to breaking Enthiran's record in Malaysia.
