Arvind Swami, one of the heart-throbs of the 1990s, came back with a bang in 2015 with the blockbuster Thani Oruvan, in which he played a suave yet menacing villain. Ever since then, the star has been getting some enviable offers from both the Tamil as well as Telugu film industries.

While he has just completed shooting for his portions in the Mani Ratnam directorial Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, in which he is sharing screen space with Simbu, Vijay Sethupathi and Arun Vijay, Arvind Swami has some interesting plans for next year.

The star is headed towards a new path and has revealed that he will be donning the director’s robes. Apparently, he has gathered his cast and crew and will making an official announcement about it soon.

Arvind Swami’s recent release, a remake of the Mammootty’s Malayalam blockbuster Bhaskar the Rascal, bombed at the box office. A comedy drama, the film deals with the lives of two single parents, originally starring Mammootty and Nayanthara. The Tamil version, directed by Siddique who also helmed the Malayalam version, starred Arvind Swami and Amala Paul. After several postponements, the film finally hit the screens recently. Though the actor was appreciated for his performance, the film did not do well. The film was produced by Harshini Movies and has music by Amresh Ganesh.

Arvind has a slew of films in his kitty, including Mani Ratnam’s CCV, Naragasooran directed by Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru fame Karthick Naren, Sathuranga Vettai 2 with Trisha, and the Selva directorial Vanangamudi. All these projects are in different stages of production and gearing up for release this year.

Of all the projects in his kitty, Arvind is most excited about the long pending Naragasooran, in which he has joined hands with young filmmaker Karthick Naren. Touted to be a thriller, Naragasooran stars Arvind Swami, Shriya Saran, Sundeep Kishan, Aathmika and Indrajith in lead roles. The film is bankrolled by Gautham Menon, Venkat Somasundaram and Reshma Ghatala under the banners Ondraaga Entertainment and Shraddha Entertainment. The project, which was wrapped up long back, is reportedly caught in a financial crunch but is expected to hit the screens later this year.
