It has been confirmed that superstar Rajinikanth, last seen playing a college warden with a violent streak in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta, will next team up with AR Murugadoss for a rumoured political project.
The latest update is that Anirudh Ravichander has been signed to compose music. This will be his second successive film with Rajinikanth after Petta. In his latest interview to Times of India, Anirudh confirmed signing Rajinikanth’s next film with Murugadoss.
Talking about his upcoming Tamil projects, he said: “As of now, Indian 2 and Murugadoss sir’s film (with Rajinikanth). These two are my Tamil projects, and I have one in Telugu (Jersey, starring Nani).”
With the project slated to go on the floors very soon, the makers are finalising rest of the cast and crew. Recently, popular lensman Santosh Sivan revealed on his Twitter page that he has signed Rajinikanth’s film.
Currently dubbed as Thalaivar 166, the film will mark Sivan’s reunion with Rajinikanth after Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathi. To be bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the Superstar is said to have allocated 90 days for the project.
The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be revealed. There are rumours doing the rounds that Keerthy Suresh is being considered as the leading lady for the project. Keerthy had worked with Murugadoss in Sarkar, in which she played Vijay’s pair.
The project was originally supposed to be produced by Sun Pictures. However, they opted out of the project after their last outing with Murugadoss, Sarkar, was embroiled in controversy.
Therefore, Lyca Productions took over the reins of this film. While Lyca had previously produced Rajinikanth’s 2.0, they forayed into production with Murugadoss’s Kaththi.
Anirudh has been signed up to compose the tunes for a bilingual titled Thumbaa. It will be a comedy-adventure directed by Harish Ram. Anirudh will be composing a song for Thumbaa while the other tracks and background score will be delivered by the young and sensational musical duo Vivek-Merwin and Santhosh Dhayanidhi.
