Malayalis around the world have a new must-see video doing the rounds on social media.A music video called “Mime Through Mollywood”, uploaded to YouTube by Gold FM 101.3, a UAE-based radio station, has gone viral both on YouTube and on Facebook.Uploaded two weeks ago, the video is a response to “Mime Through Time” by SketchShe, a popular Australian video. The nearly four minute video stars RJ Neena, RJ Binju and RJ Deepa in a car, miming to some of the most popular Malayalam songs of all time. The extensive use of costumes and make-up sets the video apart from others.Starting from the evergreen actor Prem Nazir’s 1970 song “Nin Pathangalil” to Nivin Pauly’s funky song from his latest film “Oru Vadakkan Selfie”, the video has it all.The video was conceptualised by Namitha Naiyyar, station head of Gold FM 101.3.“Our goal was to invoke nostalgia among Malayali movie lovers all over the world and at the same time to include representation from different generations of movies ranging from Prem Nazir to Nivin Pauly,”she told The News Minute.Asked about the reaction to the video, she said, “The response in general has been very encouraging. We have got numerous emails and messages from both listeners as well as people who have just watched the video.”The video has more than five lakh views and more than 18,000 shares on their Facebook page in less than two weeks.
